A workshop was organised by Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (HPPCB) with all stakeholder departments on Saturday for effective implementation of environmental laws.
A demand for effective implementation of environmental laws was put forward by Prabodh Saxena, Additional Chief Secretary Finance and Personnel department during the workshop.
It is very necessary to bring about a change in human behaviour for environmental protection. Considering the educational, economic and awareness level of the people of Himachal, he went on to say that the state had all potential to become a model state in the country in terms of environmental protection and effective implementation of environmental laws.
Waste rules being reviewed
Prabodh Saxena said that in view of the prevailng circumstances, the Central Government’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change,is once again reviewing waste rules for all waste categories such as municipal solid waste, plastic waste, e-waste and bio-medical waste.
All rules related to the management of hazardous and other waste, construction and demolition waste have recently been revised.Effective implementation of amended rules will boost pollution control endeavours and environmental protection in the state.
Such workshop, he said should be conducted at district and regional level to proceed in this direction.
No compromise in implementation of environmental laws
Apoorva Devgan, Member Secretary, HPPCB, said that duties and responsibilities of industries, urban local bodies, health institutions, district administration, state government and pollution control board are clearly outlined in the environmental rules.
Hence, there is a need for coordinated efforts by all stakeholders to achieve desired improvement in the quality of the environment and effective implementation of its laws.
He stressed that there will be no laxity in the implementation of these laws by the Pollution Control Board.
