‘His ideals most relevant today’: Himachal Governor, Chief Minister pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu offered floral tribute to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary on Tuesday (January 30, 2024) at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the Ridge in Shimla.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said that Mahatma Gandhi led India to freedom through the path of non-violence. He said that his message of truth and non-violence was more relevant today, and the entire nation was grateful to him for leading one of the world’s biggest non-violent movements and showing the power of non-violence to the world.

The Chief Minister said that Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership and dedication towards non-violence played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence. He called upon the citizens to draw inspiration from his ideals and incorporate them into their lives as a genuine tribute.

Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, and this day is observed as Martyr’s Day in India. Two minutes of silence was also observed to mark the occasion. Patriotic songs and bhajans were also recited on the occasion.

Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Youth Services and Sports Minister Yadvinder Goma, Member of Parliament and Congress state president Pratibha Singh, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sunder Singh Thakur, MLA Kuldeep Singh Rathore, Chairman of Forest Development Corporation Kehar Singh Khachi, Shimla Mayor Surinder Chauhan, Chief Minister’s political adviser Sunil Sharma, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, Shimla DC Aditya Negi, Director of Information and Public Relations Rajiv Kumar, Shimla MC Commissioner Bhupender Kumar Attri and students were among those present on the occasion.
