SHIMLA: Renuka Singh Thakur, a fast bowler hailing from Rohru in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh, is set to rejoin the Indian women’s cricket team after a six-month hiatus due to back pain.
The resilient player, having undergone extensive treatment at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, has successfully recovered and secured her spot in the upcoming T20 and Test matches against England and Australia, both scheduled to tour India.
The Indian women’s cricket team will play three T20 matches and one Test match against England. Additionally, they will face Australia in a Test match.
Himachal Pradesh women’s cricket team captain Harleen Doal has also earned her place for the Test matches, but she would not participate in the T20 matches.
Expressing her joy, Renuka’s mother Sunita Thakur said that her daughter was in prime of her health after six months of treatment and was eager to contribute to the Indian team’s success. Renuka’s stellar performances in the domestic season have further solidified her position in the squad.
The action-packed series is set to kick off with the first T20 match against England on December 6 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, followed by the second T20 on December 9 and the third on December 10. The Test match against England is scheduled to commence on December 14, with the Test match against Australia slated for December 21.
Following Renuka’s outstanding performance in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup and the women’s IPL earlier this year, her absence due to back pain led to her exclusion from the Bangladesh tour and Asian Games. Nevertheless, her impressive record, including being the highest wicket-taker in the Commonwealth Games with 11 wickets, has earned her a place in B-grade in the BCCI’s annual contract.
