Dharamshala: Ashish Butail, the Congress co-incharge of elections for Palampur constituency and Dharamshala, criticized the defection of his party’s lawmakers to the BJP, accusing them of opportunism.
He pointed out that these lawmakers had opposed the BJP in the previous elections but are now seeking votes under the BJP’s banner. Butail alleged that these lawmakers had attempted to overthrow the government by joining hands with the BJP, but the people and leaders of Himachal Pradesh have maintained their support for the existing government.
He emphasized that such political maneuvering is unprecedented in Himachal Pradesh’s politics and that those involved will face consequences in the upcoming by-elections.
Butail also accused BJP candidates of falsely accusing the Chief Minister while he focuses on governance. He highlighted dissatisfaction within the BJP regarding the air dropped candidates and said that the ticket allocation by Congress for the Dharamshala by-election will be finalized soon.
Responding to queries about developments in Kangra, Butail mentioned the ongoing reassessment of properties worth Rs 30 crore, after which appropriate amounts will be collected. He also noted the appointments of ministers in the Kangra parliamentary constituency, indicating a reshuffle in the political landscape.
