The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for snowfall, rain and thunderstorms in Himachal Pradesh on March 13 and 14, with the possibility of rain in certain areas on March 12 as well.
Despite a start to the day with sunshine, Tuesday (March 12, 2024) saw partially cloudy skies and intermittent drizzles in some places of the state.
According to reports, 507 roads, including three National Highways, remain closed due to snowfall. Additionally, 325 areas are experiencing power supply interruptions due to transformer failures while eight drinking water schemes have been affected.
No large change in minimum and maximum temperatures was witnessed across the state during the last 24 hours and the average minimum and maximum temperatures were also normal in most parts.
Kukumseri in Lahaul-Spiti was the coldest in Himachal at -4.1 degrees Celsius while the highest temperature of 27.6 degrees Celsius was experienced in Una.
In the last 24 hours, Lahaul-Spiti’s received 7.6 cm on snow, Gondla 7.3 cm and Keylong 3.5 cm while Kothi near Manali and Sangla in Kinnaur got 1 cm and 0.2 cm of snow, respectively. Several parts in Chamba received rain, including 10.9 mm at Tissa, 10 mm at Bharmaur, 8.5 mm in Chamba and 7 mm in Dalhousie. Shilaroo in Shimla got 10.2 mm rain, Manali 8 mm and Kullu’s Bhuntar 3.7 mm.
