Himachal weather update: Kukumseri coldest at -11.3°C, Una hottest at 22.8°C; 133 roads still blocked due to snow

Himachal Pradesh continues to grapple with a cold wave as the minimum temperatures across most regions have fallen below normal by one to three degrees. The Meteorological Department’s latest forecast indicates a continuation of clear weather patterns until February 17.
Despite the sunny weather, a noticeable drop in temperatures has been recorded across the state, particularly in the districts of Kangra, Mandi, Bilaspur and Una, where the possibility of a cold wave looms large, according to meteorological experts. Shallow to moderate fog was experienced in Sundernagar, Mandi and Bilaspur with a visibility up to 500 metres. There is a yellow alert for cold wave on Sunday (February 11, 2024) as well.
Over the past 24 hours, Kukumseri in Lahaul-Spiti was the coldest in the state at -11.3 degrees Celsius while Una was the hottest at 22.8 degrees Celsius. Nahan witnessed a notable rise of three degrees Celsius, followed by Manali and Kalpa, which recorded increase of 1.3 and 1.9 degrees Celsius, respectively.
As many as 133 roads, including three national highways, remain impassable across the state, with Lahaul-Spiti district bearing the brunt of road closures, accounting for 70 of the affected routes.
As many as 27 roads are blocked in Kullu district, 14 in Mandi, 13 in Chamba, nine in Shimla and one in Kangra district. There are 62 power transformers that are still out of order while five drinking water schemes are affected.
