Himachal Pradesh is bracing for four days of anticipated rain and snowfall across various regions as two consecutive fresh western disturbances are set to influence weather patterns from the night of March 10 to 12.
The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued alerts, warning of adverse weather conditions in high-altitude areas beginning March 10. From March 11 to 14, several high-altitude areas are expected to experience rain and snowfall, with low-lying and plain regions also likely to receive rainfall.
A yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning has been issued for specific areas. March 15 may also witness inclement weather in high mountain regions.
As of Saturday (March 9, 2024) morning, traffic along three national highways and 346 roads in the state remained disrupted in the aftermath of the recent snowfall. The maximum 285 roads are block in tribal Lahaul-Spiti district while 24 roads are blocked in Kinnaur, 15 in Chamba, 11 in Kullu, eight in Shimla, two in Mandi and one in Kangra.
As many as 365 power transformers continue to be dysfunctional, of these 149 in Lahaul-Spiti, 155 in Kinnaur and 61 in Chamba. Eight water supply schemes of the Jal Shakti Department have been affected in Lahaul-Spiti.
On Saturday, clear skies prevailed in parts of the state, including the capital Shimla, with temperatures rising due to sunshine. The maximum temperatures have witnessed a significant increase over the past 24 hours.
The minimum temperatures across various parts are as follows: Shimla 6°C, Bhuntar 4.4°C, Kalpa -3.6°C, Dharamshala 10.2°C, Una 6.8°C, Nahan 10.1°C, Palampur 4°C, Sundernagar 5.4°C, Manali 0.9°C, Kangra 7°C, Mandi 5.7°C, Bilaspur 7.7°C, Chamba 7.6°C, Solan 4.8°C, Dalhousie 5.6°C, Jubbarhatti 7.5°C, Kufri 4.7°C, Kukumseri -11.4°C, Narkanda 1.8°C, Bharmour 3.1°C, Reckongpeo 0.6°C, Paonta Sahib 11°C and Dehra Gopipur recorded 10°C.
