Snowfall was experienced in the higher reaches of Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti and some parts of Shimla district over the past 24 hours amid an orange alert in Himachal Pradesh.

The capital Shimla remained cloudy throughout the day. An orange alert for rain, snowfall and thunderstorms has been issued in most areas of the state for Sunday and Monday as well. The weather is expected to remain inclement until April 16 due to the activity of a western disturbance. Clear skies and sunshine are anticipated on April 17, with the possibility of rain returning on April 18 and 19.

In most areas on Saturday, the weather stayed clear. The maximum temperature recorded in Bilaspur was 34.9 degrees Celsius, with 12 areas of the state experiencing temperatures above 30 degrees.

Although there were chances of rain in Shimla due to dark clouds in the afternoon, the weather later turned pleasant due to blowing winds. Snowfall occurred on the high peaks of Kullu and Lahaul, including Rohtang Pass, leading to a drop in temperatures. Tourists flocked to Gulaaba and Sissu over the weekend to witness the snow.

The Chanshal valley of Dodrakwar in Rohru sub-division of Shimla district too witnessed snow. The place is approximately 180 km from Shimla. Situated at an altitude of 14,830 feet above sea level, the Chanshal valley witnessed fresh snowfall on Chanshal Pass, attracting a large number of tourists. Chanshal, the highest peak of Shimla, remains open from May to October and remains snow-covered for the rest of the year, drawing millions of tourists annually.
