The plains and low-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh are currently experiencing a severe heatwave. The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has forecasted clear weather across the state until May 28.
With the bright sun shining, temperatures are expected to rise further. A yellow alert for heatwave conditions has been issued for various parts of 10 districts in the state for the next five days.
Clear weather persists in capital Shimla as well as in other parts of the state. On Tuesday (May 21, 2024), the maximum temperatures recorded were 42.2°C in Neri, 42.4°C in Una, 40.8°C in Bilaspur, and 38.7°C in Hamirpur.
Heatwave alert for 10 districts
The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert from May 22 to May 26 for several parts of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur districts. The department has advised people to avoid exposure to the heat by wearing light, light-coloured, loose, cotton clothing, and to cover their heads with cloth, hats or umbrellas.
Minimum temp sees rise across state
The minimum temperatures have gone up across the state. The temperature recorded in various locations is as follows: Shimla 17.4°C, Sundernagar 17.7°C, Bhuntar 14.3°C, Kalpa 10.2°C, Una 23.2°C, Nahan 23.7°C, Keylong 6.5°C, Palampur 20.5°C, Solan 17.0°C, Manali 12.3°C, Kangra 21.8°C, Mandi 17.7°C, Bilaspur 20.3°C, Hamirpur 18.7°C, Chamba 17.4°C, Jubbarhatti 21.2°C, Kufri 16.3°C, Kukumseri 6.2°C, Narkanda 12.8°C, Reckong Peo 13.5°C, Seobagh 13.0°C, Dhaula Kuan 24.2°C, Barthīn 18.7°C, Kasauli 22.7°C, Paonta Sahib 28.0°C, Sarahan 16.5°C, Dehra Gopipur 27.0°C, Tabo 9.2°C, Sainj 16.1°C, and Bajaura 14.4°C.
Due to the intense heat in Himachal Pradesh, residents are advised to stay vigilant regarding their health and adhere to necessary precautions.
