Himachal weather

The monsoon in Himachal Pradesh is expected to weaken from Monday (September 9, 2024) until September 15, according to the Meteorological Center in Shimla.

Light rain is forecast in select areas between September 9 and 15, with clear weather anticipated across most of the state. However, rain is expected at isolated places on September 10. In the past 24 hours, the state recorded rainfall in several regions, including 25 mm in Kasauli, 18.6 mm in Shimla and 16 mm in Jubberhatti.

Despite the weakening monsoon, 62 roads across the state were impacted by landslides as of Monday morning and two bridges and 17 electricity transformers were damaged.

A tree fell on a moving car near a private school in Kasauli, a popular tourist destination. The car narrowly escaped major damage and the two passengers emerged unscathed. NH-5 restored in Kinnaur after 2 days

After being blocked for two days due to landslides and land subsidence, the National Highway-5 at Nigulsari in Kinnaur was reopened on Sunday evening. The NHAI constructed a 70-metre stretch of road to restore traffic. The reopening of the highway brought relief to thousands of villagers, tourists and Army personnel stranded since Friday night. The roadblock had severely impacted the transportation of goods, especially for local apple farmers who had to halt harvesting due to the disruption. With the road now cleared, the apple trade in the region is expected to regain momentum.

Bailey bridge opened on Una rivulet

A Bailey bridge on the Rampur Khad in Una was inaugurated on Monday, restoring traffic on the Una-Santoshgarh road. The bridge, constructed by the Public Works Department in just 15 days, allows the passage of small and large vehicles, although heavy vehicles above 18 tonnes will be restricted. The original bridge was damaged by heavy rains in mid-August, causing significant disruption. The completion of the Bailey bridge has brought relief to commuters and local residents, marking a significant recovery effort after the monsoon damage.
