Himachal weather: Monsoon weakens in state, forecast for clear weather in Shimla, other parts

SHIMLA: Monsoon activity has significantly weakened in Himachal Pradesh, leading to clear sky in the state capital Shimla and other parts of the region on Monday (September 16, 2024).
However, sporadic rainfall is expected in several areas on September 18, according to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla. While the weather may remain unstable in some locations until September 22, overall conditions appear to be improving.
In the last 24 hours, notable rainfall was recorded in various parts of the state. Bilaspur received 100.8 mm of rain, followed by Kufri with 35 mm, Kasauli 28 mm, Neri 26.5 mm, Gohar-Karsog 24 mm, Bijahi 23.2 mm, Sundernagar 13.8 mm, Dharamshala 5.8 mm and Chamba 11.5 mm. While rainfall has decreased in recent days, road conditions remain affected due to landslides.
As of 10 am on Monday, 74 roads across the state were still blocked due to landslides, with Shimla district being the hardest hit. The damage has also affected local infrastructure, with five electricity transformers disrupted in various areas.
Excess rainfall in September
Between September 1 and 16, Himachal Pradesh received 20 per cent more rainfall than normal for this time period. Typically, 78.3 mm of rainfall is expected, but the state recorded 93.7 mm. The most affected areas included Bilaspur, which saw 76 per cent more rain than usual, followed by Kinnaur (78 per cent more), Mandi (79 per cent) and Shimla (67 per cent).
However, some districts experienced a shortfall in rainfall. Chamba received 11 per cent less rain than normal, Lahaul-Spiti had 65 per cent less and Una was 36 per cent below average.
Shimla sees 14.5°C
The minimum temperatures across Himachal Pradesh are now stabilising. In Shimla, the temperature was recorded at 14.5°C, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded 16.8°C and 16.1°C, respectively. Other areas include Kalpa 9.5°C, Dharamshala: 16°C, Una 19.5°C, Nahan 21.1°C, Keylong 6.8°C, Solan 17.5°C, Manali 12.9°C and Mandi 19°C.
