Himachal weather: Intermittent rain in isolated parts amid orange alert

Intermittent rains lashed various parts of Himachal Pradesh amid an orange alert on Wednesday (August 7, 2024) even as the rain obstructed the search operation for 33 missing persons in Samej. Rescue teams have been stranded due to the severe weather, delaying efforts to locate the missing persons.
The rains have continued in the state capital Shimla since last night. Recorded rainfall includes Paonta Sahib with 116.6 mm, Dhaula Kuan with 76.5 mm, Karsog with 64.2 mm, Nahan with 56.1 mm, Narkanda with 44.5 mm, Katola with 44.3 mm, Ghamarur with 42.8 mm, Shimla with 27.8 mm, Solan with 19 mm, Mandi with 16.2 mm and Chamba with 14.5 mm.
The Meteorological Centre in Shimla issued an orange alert for heavy rain on August 7 and August 10 across many parts of the state. A yellow alert has been issued for August 8, 9, 11 and 13. Residents have been advised to stay away from rivers and streams.
The downpour has caused rivers and streams in the Karsog subdivision to overflow, halting movement on many routes and disrupting daily life. In light of the adverse weather conditions and for the safety of children, all government and non-government educational institutions in Karsog subdivision have declared a one-day holiday today.
The ongoing rain in Shimla city has caused trees to fall, damaging vehicles and posing a landslide threat in several areas. A tree fell near US Club in Shimla, damaging a car.
In Malana, villagers have started preparing a helipad amidst the rain, as they now rely on helicopters for support. The stock of ration in Malana is depleted, and electricity and water supplies are stalled, affecting the 2,500 residents.
The minimum temperatures recorded across the state are as follows: Shimla at 16.2°C, Sundernagar at 23°C, Bhuntar at 22°C, Kalpa at 16.4°C, Dharamshala at 20.5°C, Una at 23.2°C, Nahan at 23.3°C, Solan at 20.5°C, Manali at 19.2°C, Kangra at 22.4°C, Mandi at 22.7°C, Bilaspur at 25.3°C, Hamirpur at 25.2°C, Chamba at 23.5°C, Narkanda at 14°C, Reckong Peo at 18.9°C, Dhaula Kuan at 24.7°C and Paonta Sahib at 24°C.
