Himachal Pradesh is set to experience a significant change in weather due to an active western disturbance, with the Meteorological Centre in Shimla forecasting continuous rain across many parts of the state from June 1 to June 6. This shift is expected to bring much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave.
The Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms in various regions, with particularly adverse weather anticipated from June 4 to 6. While the weather may remain clear in the plains and low-altitude areas on June 2 and 3, the capital Shimla is currently experiencing a mix of sunshine and light clouds. There is also a chance of rain and snowfall in the high mountain areas today.
On Thursday, temperatures soared above 40 degrees Celsius in six locations, prompting a heatwave alert for several plain areas. Meanwhile, more than 500 tourist vehicles stranded in sudden snowfall at Rohtang Pass last night were safely evacuated by the police.
The forecast predicts rain and thunderstorms across various districts, including Chamba, Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti, from June 1 to 6. Winds are expected to reach speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour in many parts.
