KULLU: Fresh snowfall has enveloped Lahaul valley, extending to the Atal Tunnel at Rohtang, prompting road closures at Gramphu, Kaza and Shinku La on the Manali-Leh road. Alongside Rohtang Pass, Koksar and Sissu, the landscape has been draped in a snowy blanket, leading to a sharp decline in temperature.
Khoksar in Lahaul received 8.8 cm of snow while it has been raining incessantly in various parts of the state, including Dalhousie. The Meteorological Centre, Shimla, has issued a yellow alert for rain and snowfall across various parts of Himachal even as a cold wave has swept the entire state. This change in weather patterns is attributed to the western disturbance, evident in the presence of light clouds in Shimla.
“The western disturbance as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level now runs roughly along longitude 70°E to the north of latitude 26°N,” the Meteorological Centre said in a statement.
The maximum temperatures for various places in the state were recorded: Una 29°C, Kangra 27.6°C, Bhuntar 26.4°C, Mandi 26.3°C, Dharamshala 25°C, Nahan 24.5°C, Chamba 24.1°C, Solan 24.1°C, Shimla 19.2°C, Manali 17.4°C, Kalpa 15.8°C and Keylong 12.3°C. The minimum temperatures dipped to minus 0.3°C in Keylong, 1.6°C in Kalpa, 4.4°C in Manali, 9.6°C in Shimla and 12.2°C in Dharamshala.
