Himachal weather: 70 roads blocked across state, rainy spell to continue till July 14

Monsoon rains continue to drench several parts of Himachal Pradesh, with the state capital Shimla experiencing heavy downpour on Monday (July 8, 2024) morning. The incessant rains have led to the suspension of traffic on 70 roads across the state until 10 am.

Additionally, 84 power transformers and 51 water supply schemes have been affected, causing widespread disruptions.

The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has forecast that the rainy spell will persist until July 14 in various parts of the state. A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued for July 11 and 12, indicating potential intense downpour in several regions.

Rainfall measurements recorded in the last 24 hours show significant precipitation: Shimla 43.8 mm, Salapad 39.8 mm, Kasauli 38.2 mm, Rampur 24.6 mm, Kufri 24.2 mm, Nahan 23.1 mm, Kahu 23.1 mm, Pandoh 22 mm and Sarahan 21 mm.

Heavy rainfall is anticipated in many parts of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts on July 11 and 12. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
The minimum temperatures recorded in various locations across the state are as follows: Shimla 15.6°C, Sundarnagar 21°C, Bhuntar 13.6°C, Dharamshala 20°C, Una 23°C, Nahan 13.4°C, Palampur 19°C, Solan 21.5°C, Manali 17.1°C, Kangra 19.6°C, Mandi 24.2°C, Bilaspur 23.2°C, Chamba 21.6°C, Kufri 14.9°C, Narkanda 13.7°C, Bharmaur 17.2°C, Rekangpio 15.8°C, Barthi 22.4°C, Kasauli 18.5°C, Paonta Sahib 21°C, Dehra Gopipur 26°C, Tabo 14.5°C, Mashobra 15°C, Sainz 20.8°C and Bajaura 22.3°C.

The state government and local authorities were closely monitoring the situation, said an official, urging people to avoid unnecessary travel during the heavy rainfall period.
