The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has announced the suspension of all its bus routes leading to Delhi, following advisories from Delhi and the Haryana Police amid the ongoing farmer protests on the highway to the national capital.
Farmers from across the country, mainly northern parts, are converging on Delhi, prompting heightened security measures and disruptions in transportation services.
The decision to suspend HRTC bus services comes as all borders between Haryana and Delhi have been sealed to deter the marching farmers. HRTC’s move aligns with directives from law enforcement agencies to mitigate potential disruptions and ensure public safety. Consequently, the HRTC will operate buses strictly in accordance with guidance from the Delhi and Haryana Police.
To assist passengers amidst the suspension, the HRTC has released helpline numbers for inquiries and assistance. Travellers intending to travel between Delhi and Chandigarh have been advised to seek information from their nearest bus stand or contact the HRTC control room at 0177-2658765, 011-23868694 (Delhi) and 9463378026 (Chandigarh) before commencing their travel.
Approximately 300 buses ferry passengers to Delhi from various regions of Himachal Pradesh daily. The suspension of these services has inconvenienced residents of Himachal Pradesh travelling to and from Delhi. Buses originating from Delhi and destined for Himachal Pradesh have been stranded at various locations.
“Presently, the HRTC has redirected its buses to operate exclusively between Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh. The resumption of services from Chandigarh to Delhi remains contingent upon evolving circumstances and may only be considered during daylight hours,” said an HRTC official.
