Himachal spurious drug scam accused made fake medicines worth Rs 1 crore in a mere 4 months

The illegal business of manufacturing spurious medicines was going on for the past about four months at Baddi in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh and counterfeit drugs with a face value of about Rs 1 crore were manufactured during the period, an investigation into the case has found.

The spurious drugs were sold in several parts of Uttar Pradesh. A large quantity of drugs was also recovered from the house of the main accused, Mohit Bansal, in Agra, which were yet to be packed.

There is a possibility of supply of the spurious medicines in other states as well. USV Limited’s high cholesterol and stroke treatment drug Roseday, Cipla company’s allergy drug Montair and IFFCA company’s pain reliever Zerodol have been recovered from the accused’s house.

Himachal Principal Secretary (Health) Subhashish Panda said an investigation into the case was underway. The Himachal Pradesh High Court has also taken strong note of the manufacturing of spurious medicines in Baddi and put the government on notice. While hearing a suo moto PIL on Monday, the court sought a reply from other respondents, including the Chief Secretary, within three weeks.

The Principal Secretary (Home), Health Secretary, Drug Controller, Director of Health and the Solan Deputy Commissioner and SP have been made respondents in the case. A Division Bench of Chief Justice AA Sayed and Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua posted the matter for hearing after three weeks. The High Court took up the PIL while taking cognisance of reports published in the media. According to reports, the Drug Control Authority busted the business of spurious drugs in Baddi industrial area. A huge consignment of spurious medicines manufactured in the name of reputed companies has been seized.
