SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh capital Shimla witnessed more than just snowfall as Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Sanjay Awasthi stirred a controversy by driving his car in the wrong lane, causing a major traffic disruption. A video capturing the incident has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage among residents.
In the video, a local resident can be seen confronting the Arki MLA, lambasting him for aggravating the traffic chaos already prevailing due to the snowfall. The resident countered Awasthi for driving his vehicle in the wrong lane, leading to a traffic jam and leaving many commuters stranded on the road.
The clip shows the tense exchange between the irate local and a visibly shaken CPS, with other bystanders also urging Awasthi to reverse his vehicle instead of moving ahead in the wrong lane. Despite the mounting criticism, the CPS appeared taken aback by the backlash as he remained in his government vehicle.
The incident has incited strong reactions on social media platforms, with users condemning Awasthi’s actions and denouncing the VIP culture that often flouts traffic regulations. Comments on the video called for accountability and equal adherence to rules even by VIPs.
One user questioned the need for special treatment: “Ye kya dadagiri ha…. VIP hai to kya hua, kanoon to sab ke liye same hai (Down with VIP culture, same rules should apply for all).” Another user advocated for the rejection of VIP culture altogether: “Boycott VIP culture.” Some lauded the person who confronted Awasthi.
