DHARAMSHALA: The Athletic Federation of India has introduced a new mandate for players participating in the upcoming state-level athletic meet in Himachal Pradesh, which is to be held in Dharamshala from June 22.

The Unique Identification Number (UID) code, generated by the federation, is now a prerequisite for player registration. Those without a UID code will not be eligible to participate in the event.

The announcement comes as part of the Indian Athletics Association’s decision to make the UID code mandatory for all athletic competitions. The two-day state-level athletics competition in Dharamshala is expected to witness the participation of approximately 400 runners, with 40 to 50 players representing each district.

The competition will feature various categories, including Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, Under-20 and men’s and women’s categories. Under-18 events will encompass races ranging from 100 to 3,000 metres, along with long jump and shot put competitions. Similarly, Under-20 and men’s and women’s categories will feature races from 100 to 3,000 metres, alongside long jump and shot put events.

Vikram Chaudhary, the district president of the Kangra Athletics Association, emphasised the significance of the UID code, stating that players must obtain it to participate in the competition. District associations have been instructed to facilitate the generation of UID codes for their respective players.

The competition will also include games tailored for younger participants, with Under-14 and Under-16 categories offering races such as the 60-metre dash, 600- metre race and various field events like long jump and shot put. With the introduction of the UID code requirement, the athletic community anticipates a smoother and more streamlined registration process, ensuring fair and transparent participation in the state-level athletic meet.
