Shimla: The long-standing traffic congestion in Shimla is set to ease with the construction of the city’s first flyover near the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha.
The Rs 22 crore project, which had been delayed due to pending clearance from the railway department, is now back on track. Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh inspected the site and directed officials to complete the construction by October.
Will connect Vidhan Sabha to Victory Tunnel
The flyover will connect the Vidhan Sabha to Victory Tunnel, a stretch notorious for heavy traffic jams. Tourists and locals alike face long delays while commuting through the area.
Once operational, vehicles heading towards Shimla will no longer have to struggle with frequent bottlenecks near the Assembly.
Work was stalled pending railway clearance
The project had been stalled due to land clearance issues involving the railway department. Minister Vikramaditya Singh had taken up the matter with the central government and railway officials, securing the necessary approvals recently.
With work resuming at full pace, authorities are confident of completing the flyover by the October deadline. Vikramaditya Singh emphasised that improving traffic flow in Shimla is a top priority for the government.
“The construction of this flyover is crucial for the city. Despite initial delays, we are ensuring that work progresses rapidly to meet the deadline,” he said.
