The long-cherished dream of the people of Sach village in Pangi Valley of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh has finally come true. On Wednesday (November 12, 2025), Pangi’s Residential Commissioner Raman Gharsangi formally inaugurated the Sach sub-tehsil office at the old Public Works Department (PWD) Rest House building, marking a historic moment for the remote tribal region.

The event was celebrated with great enthusiasm as locals welcomed the commissioner with traditional drums, dances and cultural performances, reflecting the deep joy and pride of the community.

Decades-old demand finally fulfilled

The people of Sach and nearly 10 surrounding panchayats had been demanding sub-tehsil status for decades. Although former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had once announced the creation of a sub-tehsil in the area, the promise remained unfulfilled.

The turning point came earlier this year when Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, during his visit to Pangi on Himachal Day, assured residents that their demand would be met. Subsequently, in the September Cabinet meeting, the state government formally approved the creation of the new sub-tehsil. With Wednesday’s inauguration, that long-pending promise has now become a reality.

Residential Commissioner offers gratitude

Speaking at the inauguration, Residential Commissioner Raman Gharsangi said the establishment of the sub-tehsil marked the fulfilment of a long-standing public demand. He extended his congratulations to the Pangwal community and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Tribal Development Minister Jagat Singh Negi and Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal for their support in realising this administrative milestone.

Local leaders welcome decision

Local representatives expressed heartfelt thanks to the government for this major development. Sach panchayat pradhan Dina Nath Thakur described the decision as a “historic gift” from the Chief Minister and the state government to the people of the region. He also acknowledged the efforts of administrative officials and community members who contributed to the initiative.

Among those present at the ceremony were Executive Engineer Ravi Sharma, ITDP Officer Rohit Pradhan, Tribal Advisory Member Daulat Sharma, Mindhal panchayat pradhan Bhag Dei, Gram Finderu panchayat pradhan Ishwar Dutt, deputy pradhan Mahendra Chauhan, former BDC vice-chairman Ashwani Sharma, former Tribal Advisory Member Puran Chand and numerous other community leaders and dignitaries.

New administrative convenience for residents

With the inauguration of the Sach sub-tehsil office, residents of the region will no longer need to travel long distances to complete official paperwork or access government services. The move is expected to bring greater administrative efficiency, enhance local governance and significantly improve public convenience in one of Himachal Pradesh’s most remote and challenging terrains.

As celebrations echoed through the valley, the establishment of the sub-tehsil was hailed not just as an administrative upgrade, but as a symbol of inclusion, accessibility and development for the people of Pangi Valley.
