Solan:
In a dramatic early morning operation, the Himachal Pradesh Police first rescued five persons trapped during illegal mining activities in a swollen rivulet and later registered a case against them under the Mining Act.

The incident occurred around 4.45 am on Friday when a sudden flashflood struck the Mahadev Khud near Dabhota in Solan district. The miners, reportedly engaged in unauthorised excavation using one JCB and three tipper trucks, were caught off guard as water levels rose rapidly. Trapped on top of their vehicles, they began shouting for help.

This unusual scene — where those involved in illegal activities called for assistance instead of fleeing — caught the attention of nearby residents, who quickly informed the Dabhota police. A rescue operation was launched under police supervision with help from locals. Two men used a JCB and a hydra machine to divert the water flow, allowing safe access to those stranded. The three tipper drivers and two JCB operators were brought to safety.

Once the rescue was completed, Additional Superintendent of Police Ashok Verma confirmed that the police had registered a case against those rescued under various sections of the Mining Act. “Their lives were our immediate concern. After ensuring their safety, we have initiated legal action for the illegal mining,” he said. Police investigations into the incident are currently underway.
