BJP chief Bindal slams Congress govt as ‘anti-youth and anti-unemployed’

Shimla:

In a striking contrast of organisational readiness, the Himachal Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has completed the overhaul of all six of its frontal bodies, while the ruling Congress is yet to even begin restructuring its own organisation nine months after it was disbanded.

BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal announced on Saturday (October 25, 2025) that the party has successfully constituted its Yuva Morcha, Mahila Morcha, SC Morcha, ST Morcha, Kisan Morcha and OBC Morcha, marking what he called a “comprehensive organisational expansion” ahead of upcoming political battles. “All morchas are actively working at the grassroots level to strengthen the organisation,” he said, addressing a crucial meeting of the BJP Yuva Morcha at the party’s state headquarters.

A political analyst contrasted this with the Congress’ “complete organisational paralysis”. He pointed out that the Congress, despite being in power, has failed to even appoint a new state president or form district and block-level committees since the All India Congress Committee (AICC) disbanded the state unit in November 2024.

Congress unit in limbo, high command silent

Nine months after its disbanding, the Himachal Congress remains without an organisational structure. Apart from MP Pratibha Singh, no other office-bearers are in place. Despite several meetings in Delhi chaired by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by senior leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rajni Patil, no consensus has emerged due to factional infighting between the camps of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Pratibha Singh.

Multiple names, including ministers Rohit Thakur, Anirudh Singh, Harshwardhan Singh, and MLAs Kuldeep Rathore, Ashish Butail, Vinay Kumar and Vinod Sultanpuri, have been floated for the post of state president, but the deadlock persists as leaders are reportedly unwilling to relinquish ministerial power for organisational roles.

Dr Bindal accused the Sukhu government of betraying the youth and unemployed despite making lofty promises before the 2022 Assembly polls. “Before coming to power, Congress leaders had announced in their speeches and videos that one lakh government jobs would be provided in the first cabinet meeting and five lakh employment opportunities in five years. But instead of creating jobs, they have shut down employment avenues,” he said.

He alleged that recruitment commissions had been rendered defunct. “The government is mocking the unemployed by offering menial contractual roles like Van Mitra, Rogi Mitra and Pashu Mitra with paltry pay. This is the worst form of exploitation,” Bindal added.

The BJP chief further alleged that the Congress government has abolished 137 posts in the Housing Board, thousands of posts in the Electricity Board and 1.45 lakh vacancies across departments, along with closure of around 2,000 schools, which he said eliminated nearly 20,000 jobs. “Patwar circles, sub-tehsils, PWD, IPH, PHC and CHC offices are being closed, destroying employment opportunities. This government stands fully exposed as anti-youth and anti-development,” Bindal said.

Political observers say the BJP’s timely organisational strengthening — under Bindal’s leadership and central guidance — contrasts sharply with Congress’s inertia. While the Congress high command appears paralysed by internal rivalries, the BJP has moved swiftly to position itself as a ready alternative ahead of the next electoral cycle.
