Himachal Pradesh BJP spokesperson Sanjay Sharma has accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of attempting to claim credit for development projects funded by the Central Government. Speaking ahead of the upcoming winter session of the state assembly, Sharma alleged that the Chief Minister is pressuring the administration to inaugurate nearly half a dozen centrally sponsored schemes as if they were state achievements.

Allegations of Misuse and Delay
Sharma claimed that the state government is unable to fund even basic road repairs on its own and is relying on Smart City funds, provided by the Centre, to refurbish roads in Dharamshala ahead of the assembly session. He further alleged that the government is using these funds to polish its image without acknowledging the Centre’s contribution.

Stalled Projects in Dharamshala
The BJP spokesperson also accused the Chief Minister of deliberately stalling several key central projects in Dharamshala, including:

  • Unity Mall: ₹150 crore sanctioned by the Centre, but construction allegedly halted.
  • International Convention Centre: Over ₹200 crore project reportedly delayed.
  • Central University Campus: ₹30 crore pending clearance for tree felling, delaying campus development for over two years.

Sharma alleged that these delays are politically motivated, suggesting that the Chief Minister is punishing the people of Dharamshala for the outcome of the recent by-election in the constituency.

Credit Dispute Over Samriddhi Bhawan
He also criticized the planned inauguration of Samriddhi Bhawan during the assembly session, claiming it was built using central Smart City funds. Sharma argued that Union ministers and local MPs should be involved in the inauguration, rather than the state government claiming sole credit.

Public Neglect Alleged
According to Sharma, while roads along the Chief Minister’s route are being upgraded using central funds, many public roads remain in disrepair. He accused the administration of turning a blind eye to the needs of ordinary citizens.

In a pointed remark, Sharma said, “Instead of declaring Kangra as the capital of Britain, the Chief Minister should focus on delivering real development on the ground.”
