Dharamshala: The *death toll in the flashfloods triggered by multiple cloudbursts across Himachal Pradesh has risen to seven as rescue teams on Friday (June 27, 2025) morning recovered another body from the Manuni Khud in Khaniyara, near Dharamshala.
The deceased was among nine workers who went missing after a private hydropower project site in Sokani Da Kot was inundated during Wednesday’s cloudburst.
With this recovery, five bodies have been found in the Khaniyara area alone while three workers still remain missing. One worker was found alive on Thursday. Four bodies were retrieved on Thursday amid challenging conditions. A massive multi-agency search operation is underway, with over 50 personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, Himachal police and local volunteers continuing rescue efforts.
Kangra ADM Shilpi Bekta said that locating the remaining missing workers remains the top priority. “We are committed to continuing the operation until we find the remaining individuals,” she said. A Home Guard team has also been deployed to support the search.
Widespread devastation across the state
Apart from Dharamshala, the flashfloods wreaked havoc in Kullu, where a family of three — 72-year-old Nand Lal, his 15-year-old daughter Murti Devi and his 67-year-old sister Yan Dasi — remained missing after being swept away in the Jeeva Nullah in Sainj following a cloudburst.
Further reports indicate another person may have been swept away in the Tirthan river. In Mandi district, a body was recovered near Jalpa Temple in Dharampur, taking the statewide death toll to seven. Dozens of others have been rescued or are being searched for as rivers and mountain streams continue to swell.
