Himachal Pradesh weather update: Unusual conditions prevail in January as plains colder than hills in January, snow predicted on January 16-17

SHIMLA: Clear weather conditions in Himachal Pradesh have led to a rise in temperatures with the mercury during daytime exceeding the normal range in many places, including Shimla. The nighttime temperatures in hilly areas are also notably elevated.
In Shimla, the nighttime temperature has soared to 9 degrees Celsius, surpassing the normal range by 6.3 degrees. Similarly, Kalpa reported a nighttime temperature of 1.2 degrees, exceeding the normal range by 5.5 degrees. Additionally, the minimum temperature in Dalhousie is 6.4 degrees, marking a 4-degree increase from the normal range. In Manali, the minimum temperature is 2.4 degrees higher than the normal, representing a 1.2-degree elevation.
Contrastingly, the plains are experiencing lower minimum temperatures, with readings of -0.3 degrees in Sundernagar and -0.4 degrees in Bhuntar. Dharamshala recorded a minimum temperature of 5.2 degrees, Samdho -5.1 degrees and Kukumseri -8.9 degrees. Una experienced a night temperature of 0.2 degrees.
Daytime temperatures in most areas are currently above average. Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 17.6 degrees, Sundernagar 21.5 degrees, Kalpa 13.2 degrees, Keylong 8.1 degrees, Dharamshala 19 degrees and Dalhousie 14.6 degrees, all exceeding their respective normal ranges.
The Meteorological Department has forecast a shift in weather conditions from January 16. There is a possibility of rain and light snowfall in some parts of the state on January 16 and 17.
