Himachal Pradesh weather update: Tribal belts see unexpected rise in temperature, mercury hovers over 7 degrees above normal

DHARAMSHALA: In the wake of clear weather conditions, Himachal Pradesh has been experiencing an unexpected rise in temperatures due to bright sunshine. Over the last 24 hours, the mercury has climbed several notches above normal in various locations.
The tribal areas, particularly in Kalpa, have felt the brunt of this temperature surge, with the current readings soaring 7.5 degrees higher than the seasonal average. Similarly, Keylong, the headquarters of Lahaul-Spiti district, is experiencing a temperature of 5.7 degrees above normal.
According to the forecasts from the weather department, this trend is expected to persist until January 7, with clear weather anticipated throughout the state.
In the last 24 hours, the rise in temperature has been observed in several key locations. Shimla has seen a maximum temperature increase of 1.2 degrees, reaching 14.8 degrees, which is 3 degrees higher than usual. Sundernagar recorded a temperature of 21.3 degrees, surpassing the normal level by 4 degrees, while Bhuntar experienced a high of 20.5 degrees, exceeding the average by 4.8 degrees. Kalpa witnessed a temperature surge of 3.7 degrees, reaching 13.6 degrees, a substantial 7.5 degrees above normal. Dharamshala recorded a maximum temperature of 18.2 degrees, marking an increase of 2.1 degrees, while Keylong reached 6.7 degrees, 5.7 degrees above the seasonal norm.
Conversely, certain areas experienced a drop in temperature due to fog and mist. Una, for instance, recorded a maximum temperature of 12.6 degrees in the last 24 hours. In Samdho and Kukumseri, the temperatures plummeted to 8.6 degrees and 9.2 degrees, respectively.
As for the minimum temperatures, a slight decrease has been noted in some areas over the past 24 hours. Shimla recorded a minimum of 4.6 degrees, while Dharamshala saw 7.2 degrees. Kalpa registered a chilly -1 degree, Una recorded 6 degrees and Dalhousie marked 4.9 degrees. The coldest temperature was observed in Kukumseri, where the mercury dipped to -8.2 degrees Celsius.
