Himachal Pradesh weather update: No relief expected from prolonged dry spell till January 25

SHIMLA: The winter season in Himachal Pradesh is experiencing dry conditions, leading to drought concerns in the state. According to the Meteorological Department, the absence of rain or snowfall is expected to persist until January 25. Never in a century has such a prolonged dry spell been experienced in the state.
Despite clear skies and ample sunshine during the day, the night temperatures have dropped significantly across most regions. At present, the mercury has plummeted to near zero at several locations, with some areas experiencing sub-zero temperatures.
The minimum temperatures recorded on Friday (January 19, 2024) include 0.3 degrees Celsius in Sundernagar and Bhuntar, 0.6 degrees in Una and Mandi, and a chilling 0 degrees in Seobagh. The coldest places include Kalpa at -2.8 degrees, Manali at -0.7 degrees, Kukumseri at -12.4 degrees, Narkanda at -0.7 degrees and Samdho at -0.6 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Shimla recorded 3.2 degrees Celsius and Dharamshala recorded 5.2 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperatures have also witnessed a decline in various locations throughout the state, although they remain above normal. In the last 24 hours, Shimla registered a maximum temperature of 12.6 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar 20.1 degrees, Bhuntar 19.9 degrees, Kalpa 10.2 degrees, Dharamshala 18 degrees, Una 22.6 degrees, Keylong 4.8 degrees, Manali 12.2 degrees, Mandi 18.8 degrees and Dalhousie 9.3 degrees. Additionally, Reckongpeo recorded a maximum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius while Samdho reported 7.3 degrees Celsius.
