Himachal Pradesh weather update: Bright sunny days amid biting cold nights, 20 degrees Celsius difference in Sundernagar, Bhuntar

SHIMLA: Though night temperatures have been plummeting to near-zero levels in several parts of Himachal Pradesh, the days are sunny and bright, something unusually seen in winters in the hill state.
Sundernagar and Mandi experienced 0.9 degrees Celsius while it was 0.2 degrees in Bhuntar. Narkanda and Seo Bagh also reported near-zero temperatures at 0.1 and 0.4 degrees. Kalpa shivered at -3.4 degrees Celsius while Manali and Reckongpeo experienced -0.4 and -0.9 degrees, respectively. Kukumseri and Samdho faced even more extreme conditions with temperatures dropping to -11.3 and -6.5 degrees Celsius. Shimla, Dharamshala and Una, on the other hand, maintained slightly milder temperatures with minimum readings of 3, 5.2 and 5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In addition to the biting cold, widespread fog has enveloped many areas, contributing to the further drop in temperatures. This atmospheric phenomenon has added to the chill, making conditions even colder in affected regions.
Despite the clear skies during the day, there has been a marginal decrease in daytime temperatures across Himachal, including in capital Shimla. However, daytime temperatures remain higher than normal. In Shimla, the day temperature is currently 2.8 degrees above the seasonal average. Other notable variations include Sundernagar at 2.2 degrees above normal, Bhuntar at 4.5 degrees, Kalpa at 6.5 degrees, Dharamshala at 2.7 degrees, Keylong at 9.5 degrees, Kangra at 3.7 degrees and Dalhousie at 6.2 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperatures recorded for the day were 13.4 degrees Celsius in Shimla, 19.8 degrees in Sundernagar, 20 degrees in Bhuntar, 10.8 degrees in Kalpa, 18 degrees in Dharamshala, 5.5 degrees in Keylong, 19.8 degrees in Kangra and 17.8 degrees in Dalhousie.
According to the Meteorological Department, there is currently no indication of snowfall or rain in the coming days. The weather forecast predicts clear skies and continued cold temperatures until January 26, maintaining the uncharacteristic winter conditions in the state.
