Himachal Pradesh shivers as snow blankets higher reaches, picturesque Lahaul valley out of bounds for tourist

MANALI: In the aftermath of snowfall in several higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, the state’s residents are feeling the chill, with temperatures plummeting and picturesque landscapes transformed into winter wonderlands. The weather on Sunday is expected to clear in most parts, offering respite from the recent wintry onslaught. However, the impact of the snowfall continues to reverberate.
In Shimla, the mercury is forecasted to range from a maximum of 17 degrees Celsius to a minimum of 6 degrees Celsius, accentuating the need for residents to bundle up against the cold.
Lahaul, one of the state’s renowned tourist destinations, is now draped in a pristine white blanket of snow. The iconic Rohtang Pass, however, has officially closed for the winter season, prompting tourists to redirect their plans to explore Atal Tunnel, Rohtang, Koksar and Sissu Ground once traffic is restored.
Tourist spots in Lahaul have experienced over one and a half feet of snowfall, prompting the closure of all attractions for tourists on Saturday. Rohtang, Shinku La and Baralacha witnessed a significant one-foot snowfall, while Keylong received three inches. Narkanda experienced light snowfall, accompanied by hailstorms in Shimla, Kufri and Mashobra.
The wintry conditions have disrupted normal life, leading to a halt in bus services between Manali and Keylong in Lahaul valley. Spiti, too, has been cut off due to snowfall at Kunjam Pass. The Udaipur-Killar road is also closed temporarily due to a landslide.
