The Himachal Pradesh Police has been ranked on top in the country in solving kidnapping cases and second in locating missing people with the force recording an average of 85.4 per cent against the national count of 50.8 per cent.
According to data published by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a total of 430 kidnapping cases were registered in the state in 2021. The registration rate of kidnapping cases in Himachal Pradesh in the year was 5.8 per lakh population as compared to the national average of 7.4.
The rate, however, stood at a high of 12 in Haryana, 5.9 in Punjab, 6.3 in UP, 7.2 in Uttarakhand, 12.7 in Chandigarh, 26.7 in Delhi and 7.5 in Jammu and Kashmir.
A total of 528 persons were abducted during 2021 in Himachal, of whom 88 victims went untraced. Of the 528 victims, 403 were child victims, 67 males and 336 females.
Himachal Pradesh ranked second among all states after Odisha in recovery of abducted persons. The recovery percentage in Haryana is 78.9, Punjab 42.9, UP 50, Uttarakhand 5.5, Chandigarh 41.2, Delhi 34.7 and Jammu and Kashmir 55.8. The missing persons data published by the National Crime Records Bureau shows that a total of 444 children were reported missing during this period.
The traceability of missing children in Himachal is 83.8 per cent, said DGP Sanjay Kundu. He said due to various initiatives taken by the police department, Himachal Pradesh was on top in north India in solving cases of kidnapping and recovery of missing persons.
