Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania has issued a privilege notice against BJP Rajya Sabha member Harsh Mahajan. The notice states that Mahajan made some personal remarks during his recent visit to Chamba.
Pathania has stated that Mahajan’s comments included false accusations and derogatory remarks against him, which go against the dignity of the Speaker and the members of the assembly. Exercising his constitutional powers, Pathania has issued this privilege notice to Mahajan, demanding an explanation and proof of his allegations.
False Accusations Against the Speaker
Pathania has emphasized that Mahajan made false allegations and defamatory remarks that were in violation of the Speaker’s dignity. He noted that such comments tarnish the respect and stature of the office of the Speaker as well as the assembly members. Therefore, Pathania took the step of issuing a privilege notice.
Speaker Demands Proof of Allegations
In the notice, Pathania has called on Mahajan to provide evidence and clearly explain which “Pathania” he was referring to in his comments. He also demanded that Mahajan clarify the context in which the derogatory remarks were made and substantiate the allegations with proof. Pathania has termed this as a case of privilege violation and insisted that Mahajan should answer the questions raised against him.
