Telkad village under Nadaun police station in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh is grappling with the mysterious death of Raghuveer Singh, a local resident, which occurred merely 15 minutes after the police searched his home.

On the night of the incident, police officials conducted a search of Raghuveer’s residence following a neighbour’s complaint that he possessed a firearm, posing a danger to their life. Despite the thorough search between 7 pm and 9 pm, no weapon was found. The search was conducted without a warrant, which Raghuveer’s family claimed was unwarranted and had occurred due to previous false complaints.

According to the family, Raghuveer locked himself in his room around 9 pm and died by suicide by hanging himself. The police were informed shortly after but reportedly did not arrive until 12.30 am. Raghuveer’s family has insisted that the body would not be handed over for a post-mortem until the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and senior police officials arrive at the scene.

They maintained that Raghuveer took his own life due to distress caused by the police search and are demanding the arrest of the neighbour who lodged the complaint.

Raghuveer’s father, a retired Subedar from the Army, and his son, who serves in the Navy, are among the family members seeking justice.

Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh said the cause of death, whether suicide or natural, could be determined only after a post-mortem examination. He defended the police’s actions, noting that certain circumstances necessitated searches without a warrant to ensure public safety.
