Shimla/Dharamshala: The monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly is expected to commence in the last week of August, with legislators gearing up to bring their concerns to the floor. Preparations are underway, with expectations that the session will begin around August 27 or 28 and continue through first half of September.

“We have started preparations to take up our issues in the house. It is expected that the session will start from August 27 or 28 onwards,” said a legislator, emphasising the importance of the upcoming session in addressing key issues facing the state.

This session holds particular significance as it follows recent byelections, and several developments are set to draw intense attention from the media, public and bureaucracy.
BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma’s exposés are anticipated to be a focal point. Sharma, who has switched allegiance from Congress to BJP, has made several claims that are likely to spark heated debates within the Assembly.

Adding to the charged atmosphere are the recent raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), targeting Congress leaders and alleged links to the mining mafia. These actions have provided the opposition with powerful ammunition, likely leading to confrontations in the House.

Another point of interest is the presence of the Chief Minister’s wife Kamlesh Thakur, who secured a victory in the Dehra byelections earlier this year. Her win was historic for the Congress, marking the first time the party has held the seat since 2012.

With Congress now holding 40 seats in the 68-member Assembly, compared to the BJP’s 28, the dynamics of power will undoubtedly influence the proceedings.
As the monsoon session approaches, all eyes will be on the Assembly, with expectations of a politically charged environment where issues of governance, accountability, and party strategies will take center stage.
