Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh has used an old letter issued by actor Sunny Deol, who is the BJP MP from Gurdaspur in Punjab, to take a swipe at Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, the BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha elections from Mandi.
Vikramaditya shared the authorisation letter from Sunny Deol in which he appointed BJP worker Gurpreet Singh as his representative in the constituency after his election victory five years ago. The minister shared the letter with a comment that “hope similar circumstances wouldn’t arise in Mandi”.
When Sunny Deol became an MP from Gurdaspur in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he had appointed Gurpreet Singh to address people’s issues and attend meetings on his behalf. The actor has hardly been seen in his constituency after his victory with his political rivals even putting up “missing” posters to counter him.
Vikramaditya expressed doubts regarding Kangana’s candidacy, questioning her whereabouts when rain disaster had struck Mandi during the monsoon last year. He wondered how the actress would balance her film career with public service and whether the people of Mandi would need to travel to her house in Mumbai for assistance. The minister emphasised the need for her to clarify these concerns to the public before the elections.
Vikramaditya’s mother Pratibha Singh is the sitting MP from Mandi and after initial reluctance to defend her seat, there is a possibility that she could throw her hat in the ring and take on Kangana.
