SHIMLA: Candidates for the Junior Office Assistant (JOA) IT Post Code 817 recruitment examination are expressing their frustration and anger as the results of the examination haven’t been declared for a long time.
On Thursday (January 18, 2024), the candidates staged a protest near the Secretariat and demanded immediate release of the examination results. Slogans against the government resonated in the air as candidates voiced their discontent.
The government, despite giving a commitment to appoint successful candidates to these positions before March 31, 2024, has failed to declare the final results of JOA-IT 817.
The recruitment examination was conducted on March 21, 2021, but the declaration of result has been marred by inordinate delays, prompting candidates to take legal recourse. The matter reached the Supreme Court, which on November 9, 2023, issued a verdict in favour of the candidates, citing adherence to the rules of 2020. The court mandated the government to promptly release the results, but no action has been taken to date despite the top court’s orders.
The aggrieved candidates, who have been anxiously awaiting the outcome for four years, stressed the urgency of the situation. Approximately 5,000 candidates are vying for 1,800 JOA IT-817 positions. Frustrated by the lack of progress, candidates have warned that if the government failed to meet their demands, they may resort to a hunger strike as last resort.
