Shimla:The Oberoi Group will have to return the five-star Wild Flower Hall Hotel, located in the Charabada area of Shimla, to the Himachal Pradesh government.
On Friday, the Himachal High Court dismissed the review petition filed by the Oberoi Group, ruling in favour of the Himachal government’s plea for the hotel’s return.
The bench of Justice Satyen Vaidya passed the judgement directing the Oberoi Group to return the hotel within two months to Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC). The court has sought a compliance report on March 15, 2024.
The Himachal government had taken control of the hotel on November 18, 2023. However, the Oberoi Group, terming it illegal, had sought a stay on it. The court had then granted a stay on the taking over of the hotel.
A hearing was held on December 29 in the court regarding the matter. The government had apprised the court that it wished to run the hotel. After hearing the review petition of the Group and the government’s warrant of possession, the court had reserved its order.
Senior Additional Advocate General I N Mehta informed that the court ruled in favour of the government.
The 22-year-old legal battle for the custody of the hotel has finally come to an end with the government getting ready to take over its management within two months.
