SHIMLA: The hearing in the case challenging the appointment of Chief Parliamentary Secretaries (CPS) by the Himachal Pradesh’s Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government has been deferred by the Himachal Pradesh High Court for December 20.
The case was heard in the High Court on Thursday (December 7, 2023) and the arguments on the matter were completed by the counsel for the petitioners. Now, the Advocate General will present the case in the High Court on behalf of the government on December 20.
The Supreme Court had recently rejected the plea to transfer the case to the apex court. Consequently, the hearing for this case was to take place in the High Court and was scheduled for December 7.
The state government had sought to transfer the case to the Supreme Court, arguing that hearing on similar CPS appointment cases related to Chhattisgarh and Punjab was underway in the top court.
“Therefore, to maintain uniformity, the Himachal Pradesh case should also be transferred to the highest court,” the state had said. However, the Supreme Court did not accept the government’s argument, insisting that the case be first heard in the High Court.
The appointment of CPS in Himachal Pradesh has been contested by BJP MLA Satpal Satti and others.
