Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal presided over the state level function of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana on Saturday.
Lauds Himachal Pradesh Addressing the gathering, Goyal said that Himachal had made unprecedented development in all areas as it completes 50 years of full statehood.
The state, he said had not only emerged as a leader in various fields but had shown the way to other states of the country as well.
Highlights schemes Goyal mentioned about the various schemes launched by the Central government and interacting with the beneficiaries of the scheme acknowledged their views on the scheme too.
He interacted with Guddi Devi of Kangra district, Nisha Devi of Dodra-Kwar of Shimla district, Usha Devi of Chamba district, Saroj Kumari of Hamirpur district, Chudamani of Mandi district and Krishna Devi of Bilaspur district.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana is an ambitious scheme launched by the Central Government and a major initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi through which food security for the poor, migrant labourers and the unemployed is being ensured during the pandemic.
Free food worth Rs 643 crores has been distributed so far within the state during the COVID period. About 80 crore people of the country have been benefited by this scheme. Ration kits/bags were also provided to some beneficiaries during this period.
