Himachal govt to withhold annual increment of TGTs having lower than 25% pass rates in board exams

The Directorate of Elementary Education in Himachal Pradesh has decided to withhold the annual increments of 17 trained graduate teachers (TGTs) whose students achieved less than 25 per cent pass rates in the recent Class 10 board examinations.

The action is part of a broader effort by the state government to ensure accountability among teachers and to maintain a conducive learning environment in schools.

Poor result to reflect in ACR too

A top official of the Directorate of Elementary Education stated that the decision was taken to send a strong message to teachers about the importance of their role in improving results. “Show cause notices have been issued to the TGTs concerned, giving them 15 days to explain their poor performance. This will also be noted in their annual confidential reports (ACR),” he explained.

Additionally, warning letters had been issued to these teachers, highlighting the gravity of the situation. The official revealed that in some schools, the results were as low as zero per cent, despite an adequate number of teachers being employed.

The alarming trend prompted the Directorate of Education to request detailed reports on Class 10 results from the School Education Board in Dharamshala. The subsequent analysis led to the current punitive measures.

15 college teachers redeployed

Simultaneously, the state government has initiated the process of rationalising surplus teachers in government colleges across Himachal Pradesh. The Directorate of Higher Education has deployed 15 college teachers, including assistant and associate professors, to streamline this process.

The rationalisation process involves assessing student enrolment in each subject and the number of teachers assigned to these subjects in various colleges. The objective is to identify and reassign surplus teachers to colleges facing a shortage of educators, thereby ensuring a balanced distribution of teaching resources. This initiative aims to optimize the use of government funds spent on teacher salaries and to ensure that students receive adequate attention in their respective subjects.
