Himachal govt to pay entire pending arrears of pensioners aged 75 and above on October 28, notification out
Shimla: In a significant move aimed at providing relief to elderly pensioners, the Himachal Pradesh government has issued a notification for clearing 100 per cent of arrears and dues for pensioners aged 75 years and above.
As per the latest orders, the balance arrears, totaling 22.50 per cent of the total pension/family pension arrears, will be disbursed with the pension of October 2024, payable on October 28.
This decision marks the final installment for pensioners and family pensioners under this category, ensuring that no arrears remain outstanding for those who have attained the age of 75 years or above. The arrears are in continuation of the pension/family pension revision, effective from January 1, 2016, as per earlier government memoranda issued on September 17, 2022, March 13, 2024, and August 28, 2024.

The government has also ensured that any recoverable amounts related to pension, family pension, gratuity, or leave encashment will be adjusted from the arrears before releasing the balance amount to the pensioners.
Additionally, this announcement follows the government’s earlier notification of a 4 per cent hike in dearness allowance (DA) for government employees and pensioners. The DA hike, along with the revision of salaries and pensions, is scheduled to be implemented on October 28, just before the Diwali festivities, offering further financial relief to the state’s employees and retirees.
Principal Secretary (Finance) Devesh Kumar, in his official communication, directed all Pension Disbursing Authorities (PDA) and banks, as well as Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) in government departments, to ensure that the arrears for eligible pensioners are processed and disbursed promptly within October 2024.
This move comes as part of the government’s ongoing commitment to address the financial needs of its retired employees, particularly senior pensioners who depend on timely and accurate disbursements to manage their post-retirement lives.
With this order, the government has fulfilled its promise of clearing 100 per cent of arrears, leaving pensioners aged 75 and above with zero balance arrears and much-needed financial respite ahead of Diwali.
