SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh Congress government is set to fulfil another pre-poll guarantee on Monday (December 11, 2023) as Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu may announce the decision to purchase cow dung from farmers during the one-year celebration function in Dharamshala.
The cow dung procurement scheme will be implemented from January next year. By purchasing cow dung from cattle herders, compost will be prepared by decomposing it, which will be further sold to formers for use in fields.
Ahead of the Assembly elections in Himachal, the Congress had announced 10 guarantees, one of which was purchasing cow dung from farmers at the rate of Rs 2 per kg. The Animal Husbandry Department is going to implement this scheme in collaboration with the Agriculture Department.
Only farmers will decompose cow dung.
It is being said that currently the plan for purchasing cow dung will be implemented in some areas. The Animal Husbandry Department will identify farmers first and the list will be provided to the Agriculture Department. After this, cow dung will be purchased from farmers and it will be decomposed there itself.
The government will also provide decomposer for this, which will help in decomposing the cow dung quickly and preparing manure. The government will sell this fertiliser in the market through HIMFED. The same fertilizer will also be made available to the farmers concerned as per their need.
Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Chander Kumar said that the government is committed to fulfilling its election guarantees. “Preparations are being made to purchase cow dung from farmers and nodal officers have also been deployed for this. The scheme for purchasing cow dung will be implemented from the month of January,” he said.
