Himachal govt issues notice to 250 teachers over poor Class 10 results, 30 schools had zero pass percentage

To address the concerning performance in the recent Class 10 board examinations, the Directorate of Elementary Education in Himachal Pradesh has issued show-cause notices to 250 trained graduate teachers (TGT) from 116 schools. These schools had less than 25% pass rates in the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education exams.

The directorate has mandated that these teachers respond to the notices within 15 days. Failure to provide satisfactory explanations will result in the withholding of their annual increments. Additionally, this incident will be recorded in their annual confidential reports (ACR) and warning letters will be issued to the teachers concerned. Among the 116 schools, 30 reported a zero per cent pass rate.

Ashish Kohli, Director of Elementary Education, stated that the department had initiated the process to seek explanation from the teachers responsible for the poor results. The decision followed a comprehensive review of the Class 10 results obtained from the school education board in Dharamshala.

Education department officials highlighted that the issuance of show-cause notices is underway, with some teachers having already received theirs while others still being processed. The review revealed that some schools exhibited poor performance despite having an adequate number of teachers, while many others faced a shortage of teaching staff.

In a related development, Director of Higher Education Amarjeet Kumar Sharma said that a detailed report on the Class 12 results was also being prepared. He indicated that similar actions would soon be taken against teachers responsible for low performance in these exams as well.
