The Himachal Pradesh government would provide jobs to at least 20,000 youths in the government sector every year.

On Monday, the first meeting of the Cabinet sub-committee formed to fulfill the promise of giving one lakh jobs to youths was held at the secretariat.

Revenue minister Jagat Singh Negi and education minister Rohit Thakur were present in the meeting chaired by industry minister Harshvardhan Singh Chauhan.

It was decided that the state government will work out a formula to provide 20,000 government jobs every year and this figure has been fixed for the first year.

In the first meeting, the Cabinet sub-committee sought information on vacant posts from all state government departments and board corporations. All the departments have been asked to inform about posts sanctioned and vacancies.

Information has also been sought about the financial implications of new recruitments and the nature of these fresh recruitments, regular, part-time, para worker, contract and outsourced.

The requisitions that have been made to the Public Service Commission or the Hamirpur Staff Selection Commission will not be affected, but new recruitments will start only after the Cabinet decides on the recommendations of the Cabinet sub-committee.

The Cabinet sub-committee was informed that at present about 17000 posts are vacant in all the 90 departments of the state.
