Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday lodged a protest against the recent notification of the state government to withdraw the grant of non-practicing allowance (NPA) for doctors to be recruited in the future.
Addressing media persons at a local hotel the BJP leader slammed the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government for playing with the life of future doctors who shall be joining the government service after putting in precious years of their lives for the service of humanity.
He said the present government has divided the doctors of the state into two categories – one who would get the NPA and the other who won’t, both, however, are dedicated to saving the lives of people.
Hitting out at the government Jai Ram asserted that this action against doctors would impact the health system as it would discourage them from taking up government jobs.
“The BJP strongly condemns the scrapping of NPA and demands that the government should restore it at the earliest,” he said.
He said the Sukhu government in order to please employees with OPS actually promoted inflation, closed government institutions, curtailed MLA funds, made electricity expensive and halted all development activities.
The state government on Thursday announced that doctors recruited henceforth in health and family welfare, medical education, dental, Ayush and animal husbandry departments will not be entitled to NPA.
Taking a jibe at the functioning of government Jai Ram said it was surprising that Health Minister Dhaniram Shandil was unaware of the decisions of the Cabinet meeting while it was also learned the Cabinet ministers were not listening to the Chief Minister, making a mockery of the government in public.
