SHIMLA: As October begins, there’s good news for government employees in Himachal Pradesh. The state government has announced that employees will receive their salaries on the first day of the month, providing financial relief and ensuring timely payments. However, pensioners will have to wait a little longer, with pensions scheduled to be credited on October 9.
In a further move to support senior citizens, pensioners aged 75 and above will receive 50 per cent of the remaining arrears in addition to their regular pension on October 9. This development has come as a significant relief for older pensioners who have been waiting for these pending payments.
Dearness allowance likely by Diwali
The state government is also considering a Diwali gift for both employees and pensioners, with discussions underway to release a 4 per cent installment of the long-overdue dearness allowance (DA). Employees and pensioners are currently owed a 12 per cent hike in DA. The Finance Department is assessing the financial burden on the state treasury to accommodate this allowance and a decision is expected during an upcoming cabinet meeting.

A member of a non-gazetted employees federation stated that the federation has formally requested Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to release the pending dearness allowance. Sources within the government have hinted that the allowance may be announced before Diwali, bringing further financial relief to government employees and pensioners.
Timely salary credit after delays last month
Unlike last month when employees faced a delay with their salary being credited on the 5th, this time the Finance Department has ensured that payments are made on the first day of the month. Instructions have already been issued to all state treasuries to process employee salaries promptly, ensuring no further delays.
This series of financial steps is expected to ease the burden on employees and pensioners, with many looking forward to the additional relief planned for the festive season.
