DHARAMSHALA: In a stringent move to ensure free and fair elections, the District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Una, Jatin Lal, has suspended the presiding officer and sector officer at the Mandwara polling booth in the Gagret Assembly constituency.
The action was taken in response to an incident of EVM malfunction during a mock poll. The Deputy Commissioner said the decision to suspend the officers underscored the district administration’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the election process. Lal emphasised the seriousness of the matter, stating that any negligence in the election process would not be tolerated.
Technical issues delayed the start of voting by two hours in Gagret. Despite the glitches, there was a robust turnout. Voters were seen enduring the scorching heat, with some polling stations lacking tents for shade.
However, model polling booths were well-equipped with facilities for the elderly, sick and pregnant women. Young volunteers played a crucial role in maintaining order.
