The nomination process for the upcoming Lok Sabha poll in Himachal Pradesh and the byelections to the six Assembly seats will resume on Monday (May 13, 2024) after a two-day pause due to holidays.
Among the notable contenders, BJP candidate Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur will submit his nomination for the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency on Monday, so will Congress nominee and Kasauli MLA Vinod Sultanpuri for the Shimla (SC) seat.
As May 14 is the last date for filing papers, only two days remain for candidates to file their nomination. BJP’s Mandi candidate and Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut will be filing her papers on Tuesday. The nomination papers will be scrutinised by May 15 while May 17 will be the deadline for withdrawals.
Anurag is expected to lead a grand procession from his ancestral house Sameerpur as he heads to file his papers in Hamirpur. BJP state president Rajeev Bindal, district president Deshraj Sharma and other leaders will remain present on the occasion.
Sultanpuri will file his nomination in Shimla and will be joined by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and cabinet members, with a rally planned at Chaura Maidan. In Gagret, Congress candidate Rakesh Kalia will file his nomination for the Assembly byelection and he will be joined by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Congress district president Ranjit Rana and other party leaders.
