In a significant development, Aastha Agnihotri, the daughter of Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, has taken charge as Assistant Professor at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.
Aastha has been appointed to the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), marking a notable addition to the academic faculty. The appointment came to light following the Executive Council meeting held on Friday, where envelopes containing notifications for various faculty positions, including those in the Law Department, were opened. Aastha Agnihotri was present during the meeting, which confirmed her selection as Assistant Professor at the UILS.
The news was confirmed by Aastha Agnihotri herself by publicly sharing her excitement about assuming the new role through a post on her official Facebook page. Her appointment underscores a blend of academic merit and familial association within the state’s academic circles.
Aastha’s mother late Simmi Agnihotri too was a professor at the Himachal Pradesh University. She was the head the Political Science Department at the university.
Prof Simmi Agnihotri had passed away in February this year after a heart attack at the family’s native place Haroli in Una district. She had breathed her last while being taken to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.
“The unexpected passing of Simmi Agnihotri is deeply saddening, leaving an irreplaceable void in the family. I have known Prof. Simmi Agnihotri since my university days, she was a highly educated woman committed to social causes.
Life’s unpredictability has placed a burden on Mukesh Agnihotri and their daughter to lean on each other for support. May her soul find eternal peace.
Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to the grieving family during this challenging period,” Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had written in his condolence message.
