SHIMLA: In an effort to curb road accidents in Himachal Pradesh, the state Transport Department has initiated a special campaign, as part of which a road safety walk was organised on Wednesday (January 24, 2024) from the state Secretariat to the Ridge.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri inaugurated the walk, with enthusiastic participation from Secretariat employees. The primary objective of this campaign is to minimise road accidents across the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Agnihotri emphasised that the message originating from the Secretariat should resonate throughout the entire state. Given that the Secretariat serves as the hub for significant state activities, he stressed the importance of extending the road safety message to every corner of Himachal Pradesh. Agnihotri highlighted the campaign’s intention to intensify its efforts in the future.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister revealed a critical statistic, stating that 90 per cent of road accidents in the state were attributed to human error. He underscored the significance of cautious driving in reducing accidents. Agnihotri noted a positive trend, stating that road accidents in Himachal Pradesh had decreased by 13 per cent over the past year. However, he urged residents to adhere to traffic regulations for further improvements.

As the state government continues its efforts to enhance road safety, Agnihotri appealed to all citizens to drive responsibly and abide by traffic rules to contribute to the overall safety on the roads of Himachal Pradesh.
